The railroad grid and Delmar's new subdivisions
Delmar's older houses grew up on a walkable grid around State Street and Bi-State Boulevard, the original US-13, with blocks roughly 300 by 340 feet. On the Delaware side, the grid takes in the high school and stops at N. 101 Street. Fire almost wiped out the town in 1892 and again in 1901, and it was rebuilt both times.
Newer subdivisions ignore that grid. The joint Planning and Zoning Commission has been approving new homes lot by lot in Stillwater, off Yellowwood and Silverbell drives, and in 2024 it reviewed a preliminary plan for Whitetail Run, 225 single-family homes south of Old Stage Road and Iron Hill Road. When those builder doors need springs or an opener, or you want an insulated upgrade, we handle both. Planning a detached garage instead? The town's accessory permit form sends any structure 14 by 14 feet or larger to Planning and Zoning.
