Nylon-era houses and new subdivisions
A big share of Seaford's houses date from the middle of the last century. The city's 2021 comprehensive plan says home building rose from the 1930s through the 1960s, while only 7.9 percent of homes predate 1940 and 19.8 percent were built in 2000 or later. If your garage dates from those middle years, measure before you shop: older openings and low headroom do not always fit a stock door, and the springs may be the extension type that stretches along the tracks.
New single-family homes are going up at Mearfield on Herring Run Road, Governors Grant and Belle Ayre on Atlanta Road, and Virginia Commons on Virginia Avenue, 253 homes between them in the plan's count. The plan also notes Seaford has no local historic district, but the city's flood page says all development requires a building permit, so ask the Code Department before you change a door.
