Middletown homes: 2000s subdivisions around a Victorian core
More than half of Middletown's homes were built from 2000 to 2009, and about 29 percent are attached townhouses, by Census estimates. The 2022 town plan names Parkside, the Estates at St. Annes, the Parkway at South Ridge, Spring Arbor and Willow Grove Mill among recent single-family developments, and Westown has grown on the west side since its 1,100-acre plan was proposed in 2004. One of the town's own permit packs warns that an HOA or architectural committee may need to approve exterior changes, and a new garage door is one.
The historic center works differently. The plan describes quarter-acre lots on a street grid with sidewalks and rear alleys, and large Victorian houses along North and South Broad Streets and North Cass Street, inside a National Register district of 187 contributing buildings. If your garage opens onto one of those alleys, measure the opening, headroom and side room before you shop, because an older garage often needs a door sized to its opening rather than a stock size.
