Camden homes: a historic crossroads and a newer ring
Camden's oldest houses cluster at the crossroads of Main Street (US-13 Alternate) and Camden-Wyoming Avenue, which was once called Commerce Street. The town plan counts at least 23 historic homes, with the larger ones north of that intersection, where the original Mifflin house stands. Those houses predate the car, so any garage on such a lot is a later outbuilding or addition, and a carriage-style door usually sits better beside old trim than a flat modern panel.
The newer ring is mostly detached houses: about 81 percent of Camden homes, Census figures show, and the plan describes one- and two-story homes on small lots, plus townhomes behind the Lowe's and across from Caesar Rodney High School. Pharsalia loops through the north side, Tidbury Crossing grew behind the Camden Town Center near US-13, and Barclay Farms was built for residents 55 and over. A door that went in with a 2005 house has been opening and closing for about two decades, so if its springs, cables and rollers have never been serviced, put them on the list.
