Denton homes, from alley garages to the streets east of MD-404
Denton's first neighborhoods run between Third Street and Fifth Avenue and from High Street to Franklin Street, on lots mostly 45 to 55 feet wide. The town's Pattern Book says garages there are infrequent and, when present, sit at the rear of the lot off an alley. On Fifth Avenue, home to the most stately houses, driveways on corner and other wider lots lead back to outbuildings. For garages anywhere in town, the book recommends single-width doors up to 8 feet wide in paneled styles that match the house, and says large double-width doors are out of scale with Denton houses.
The older blocks lie west of MD-404. East of it are newer developments such as Savannah Overlook and Mallard Landing, and the plan lists lots still open in platted subdivisions such as Fearins Crossing and Parkview Estates. Town-wide, home building peaked in 2006, so doors from that wave have close to 20 years of daily lifts on their springs. About 70 percent of Denton's homes are single-family detached, by the plan's count of state tax records.
