Planned communities and young garages
At least seven in ten Millville homes were built since 2010, by the census math: the town gained 1,099 housing units between the 2010 and 2020 counts. Millville by the Sea's record plan lists its villages, among them Sand Dollar Village, Lakeside Village, Summerwind Village, Sea Star Village, Peninsula Village, Sea Breeze Village, Seagull Village and Schooner Cove, and the town's project list adds Belle Shoal and the Ascend By The Sea apartments.
Young garages still wear. If your door and opener came with a house built early in the 2010s, they are now 10 to 15 years old, a good point to check springs, rollers, cables and the opener before something fails. Homes whose plans went to Sussex County on or after January 1, 2023 were reviewed under the 2021 International Residential Code, which requires a permanent wind-load label on the garage door.
The old village predates all of it. Millville grew around a steam sawmill in the late 1800s, was incorporated in 1906, and left land use to Sussex County until 1993.
